Underwater life in Corralejo


     Around the Island of Fuerteventura there exists a variety of fish totally different to the rest of the Canary Isles. One of the main reasons being the lower water temperatures. 18c to 23c (65f to 76f)

Aquatic Life

     The diving area in Corralejo is located around the island of Lobos, a zone with a particularly rich marine life. It has been declared an Underwater Natural Park. In this area live many species usually found in Europe, America or Africa. 40 dive Sites.

     The sea beds of the diving areas are made up of lava formations. Their crevices serve as hiding places to numerable fish that live amongst the most diverse species of invertibrates

     Although occasionally Dolphins and Sharks may be found, the main species that are seen regularly are:

     Common angelshark, Zebra bream, Two-banded bream, African white bream, Sharpsnout seabream, Saddle bream, Striped bream, Common bream, Red-banded seabream, Blue-spotted seabream,Black bream, Cow bream, Canary drum,Common drum, Red mullet, Bermuda sea chub, Striped barracuda, Boxlip mullet, Narrowhead grey mullet, Bluefish, Bluefin damselfish, Atlantic damselfish, Gray Triggerfish.
